Experience

Steve Parrott, the principal of Bushfire Safety Solutions has been studying and working with bushfire behaviour and building design for approximately 25 years. Steve is a long term volunteer member in the New South Wales Rural Fire Service and is currently Captain of a volunteer rural fire brigade. Steve has been involved in numerous major bushfire incidents throughout Australia which has enabled him to develop a thorough understanding of bushfire behaviour, bushfire impacts on urban development, what it means to lose everything to a bushfire and importantly, how the community can be protected against the ravages of bushfire.

Complementing this practical knowledge of bushfire behaviour, Steve has studied building design, construction and materials resulting in a thorough understanding of how buildings perform when subject to bushfire threats.

Steve is a qualified Building Surveyor and has worked in Local Government for over 20 years assessing and determining Development Applications. Steve has many years experience in assessing all classes of buildings utilising both performance building regulations and deemed to satisfy methods in both the private and local government sectors.

Steve has lectured at University level in building surveying, NSW development control law and planning for bushfire risk. Steve is also a qualified volunteer NSW Rural Fire Service Instructor and Assessor, specialising in property protection strategies and bushfire risk management planning.

With his extensive experience in bushfire management and design, Steve is technically qualified to ensure your proposed development will be assessed correctly the first time thus ensuring your development proposal addresses all the required bushfire compliance requirements.

Steve has completed the most recent University post graduate course in building design in bushfire prone areas and is a qualified bushfire assessment professional (UWS Post Graduate Certificate “Building in Bushfire Prone Areas” – 2008).

Steve is also a member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (NSW Chapter), with membership pending with the Fire Protection Association of Australia.
